DBT has been at the forefront of supporting research aimed at the development of affordable
healthcare technologies - diagnostics, implants, assistive devices, bioinstrumentation, scaffolds,
grafts, drug delivery vehicles etc. - through the Biomedical Engineering program. More than 80%
of healthcare technologies required for Indian population are met through imports. One of the
primary reasons for this is the unmet need for resources, key components involved in the making
of healthcare devices/technologies.
