An innovative probe and device for measuring subgingival temperature developed by faculty and students from Nitte University has been granted patent. The inventors of this device are Dr. Biju Thomas and Dr. Karishma Ashok from A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), Prof. Shashikantha Karinka, Professor from NMAMIT, Nitte. This device would help dentists to accurately identify areas around the teeth that are infected or having inflammation. This patent application and the process were supported by DST Technology Enabling Center at Nitte. Further, DST TEC enabled the inventors to form a Startup Dentronics that is incubating at Atal Incubation Center of Nitte University.
